Centurion Detail

Grizzled commanders of the Roman legion, these men were carved from wood.  Centurions led, as their name suggests, 100 armored troops into the thick of battle.  Furthermore, these troops were not born leaders, but made.  Only through battle after battle were they tempered hard enough to not only control themselves when death was right in front of them, but also instill confidence and valor in the troops under them. In most Roman armies throughout the Empire centurions were made up of soldiers from the provinces. They were mostly Greek, Gallic, German, or Iberian, for by the time of Christ fewer and fewer were from the seven hills of Rome.  
           

           Unlike the legates and tribunes, who mostly commanded campaigns on horseback and were removed from the life and death struggle between Romans and "barbarians", centurions were right in the middle of the maelstrom.  
          As such, centurions demanded that orders be given and obeyed with promptness and courage. The centurion that Jesus spoke too while in Capernaum was just such a man, he expected orders he gave to be obeyed with diligence and speed. For as he confidently exclaimed to Jesus,

Lord, don't trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, "Go" and he goes; and to that one "Come", and he comes. I say to my servant, "Do this", and he does it.     Luke 7:6-8

Such words of faith amazed Jesus. Because the centurion knew the power of Jesus. 

--The centurion, even though he was a commander of men, was humble. For he said, "Lord, don't trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof".

--The centurion knew that Christ could heal immediately, powerfully, and completely. "But say the word, and my servant will be healed".

--The centurion's faith was strong. He did not have to see to believe. He knew his faith was not misplaced.

I hope this post helps to elucidate the background of this centurion who's faith was looked favorably upon by our great Defender.  

Where's Athena?

Where is she?  At one time she was the great goddess of wisdom and war, but now we never hear of her. Today, nobody speaks her name, no men offer prayers to her for a safe journey, no women come to her sacred temple asking for blessings and favor, no children are taught to respect her name. Why? Because today, along with a few artistic reproductions, this is all that's left of her...

...That's it, all that's left can be found in some old museum and on some nameless library shelf. But, what about RA, the great sun god of mighty Egypt?? Yup, he has suffered the same fate as Athena. His temples lay buried under the sandstorms of the Egyptian desert, and his images and statues are carefully displayed in London as spectacles for the curious passerby to exhibit.  

           And so it is with the gods of the Philistines, the Babylonians, the Comanches, the Spartans, the Romans, the Aztecs and the Vikings. All of their gods are buried in mud and sand and their followers are no more!!

           But not the LORD! He lives and he shall live forever and ever! His followers and servants are alive and prospering. They carry His Word and do His Will and faithfully proclaim His Way to their children, friends and strangers.  

           In fact, the Lord's faithful have always lived! They were there during the time of Babylon, the days of Ra, and they outlasted the Spartans. Know this friend! Those that follow the LORD and obey His Law will never be forgotten! So who is your god? Proclaim the Good News of our Messiah! Proclaim it from your mouth today!

Meet Mr. Silver

Considered money for thousands of years. Nothing, and I mean nothing will outperform silver over the next 1-3 years as an investment.  It has returned 112% over the last 12 months.  Meaning that if you had purchased silver coins, silver bars, or old American coinage made of silver you would have doubled your money--and then some. that by investing in silver, "King Cotton", wheat, and those hamburgers that all went up, up, up way up in price over the last year became alot more affordable. Even if our wages and salary did not go up in the last 12 months, (yeah that 57% pay raise from my boss didn't happen) silver did. And by doing so it protected your hard earned savings, your children's college tuition, and the money for your rainy day fund.  

I urge you to invest in silver, whether its silver coins, silver bars, silver mining company stocks, or silver ETF's on the stock exchanges, investing in silver will help protect your savings and potentially make nice profits if the Lord is willing. For remember that all blessings come from God and that profits while nice are not even close to the whole shabang.

24 Caret Gold, All Bling Bling

Right now Cash4Gold is wanting your gold. Your jewelry, your bracelets, your earrings, your necklaces, even your engagement ring. They don’t care what shape its in, how many scratches that bracelet of yours has or how old it is. Antique or “Made in China” last month, if it has gold they want it. 

In fact, most of the jewelry that folks send in to them isn't very pure to begin with. Its a mixture of metals with just a little gold to be found and sometimes maybe only gold plated, so that it looks like its solid gold. Nonetheless, they want it and now!  Once they “get the gold” they want to extract the impurities and make it into pure solid glittering gold because mixed and impure metal is of little value to them. To do this they must smelt all those pieces of jewelry. And boy, is this an intensive process!  To arrive at 24 caret gold, which is the purest, they use fire and fire and more fire. Its a dirty, hot, and dangerous job to accomplish, yet its the only way to get the real deal, the 24 caret bling bling. After all of this, what is left is solid and shining.

Yet, this is the way of the Christian as well. A servant of the Most High, in his/her walk with God must also, throughout life, go through fire and fire and more fire. We must do this so that we become stronger and more pure.  For just as mixed metal and bracelets with only gold plating is of little value to the folks at Cash4Gold, so too are impure hearts and “gold plated Christians” of little value to our Holy Father. Therefore, we must recognize that the situations throughout our day, whether they be stressful, demanding, challenging, or flat out hair pulling, are times when we are being tested and are having the smelters’ fire put to us.  Therefore, we must remain strong, and cling to the examples that Christ and other faithful men and women in the Bible set. Their shining examples are like a fair wind to our face when things get heated and demanding. In following Jesus’ lead each and every time we overcome a stressful situation, by staying humble, being patient, and helping others, we become purer and purer. Until after many fires and testing we are as solid and shining as 24 caret gold. So take heart friend! When you are tested and things are most stressful, remember this! The great Defender does not forget those that obey and follow Him.  Patiently and humbly live for God. 

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those that love him. James 1:12

     

There's no inflation!?!

Prices are going UP. And in 2011 prices for everything that we buy will go rise like never before seen.  Price inflation is bad. It's bad for me, it's bad for you and at the end of the day, if we have to pay more for the same item that we bought yesterday or last week then, unless our income also went up, we have become poorer.

These charts are 12 month charts, covering price increases from the last year. We can safely say that their rise is a tad more than 2.2% per year. These are facts. And these price increases, unless your hourly wage or salary went up as much as "King Cotton" up above became poorer as a result. In future postings I will offer ways to combat the ravages of inflation so that our daily bread and clothing alone, does not take all our income.  

The First Step

So without further ado....The reason for this blog is to share invaluable information. As the title suggests this site shall be about two things: spreading the Good News of our salvation and helping folks maximize the return on their hard earned savings. As such, I will give you my word to abide by my title. That any and all information I post will be appropriate, brief and worth your time. I hope you enjoy it. I have never done a blog before... heck I don’t even have a Facebook.
